Gerovassiliou Estate
The Gerovassiliou Estate is located in Epanomi, 25 kilometers southeast of Thessaloniki and 15 kilometers from “Macedonia” International Airport. It was founded in 1981 by oenologist Vangelis Gerovassiliou, who revived the family vineyard and played a decisive role in preserving the Greek grape variety Malagouzia.
It consists of the winery, the museum, and its offices, and features a unique café with a magnificent view, offering not only coffee but also a variety of wines and snacks. In fact, visitors have the opportunity to taste the wines themselves through a wine-tasting session or take part in an interactive tour of the premises, witnessing firsthand the magic of winemaking.
The winery produces a significant number of bottles of wine, supplying stores (and other outlets), and is accessible to people with disabilities. It is situated in a natural setting, with special protective measures in place for the vines, which are tended with passion, particular attention to detail, and dedication.
The wines are of exceptional quality and have a very distinctive flavor. Mr. Gerovasiliou’s involvement in this process is certainly invaluable, as he carefully oversees the central and administrative departments. They are available in rosé, white, and red varieties.
George K. Antoniadis visited the Gerovassiliou Estate as part of a photo outing organized by the photography club to which he belonged, and he was truly impressed by the quality, the specially designed wine-making practices, and the integrity of the estate.
It’s worth noting that the Gerovasiliou estate features exhibits by various notable artists, which enhance the aesthetics and beauty of the space. They create a cozy space for expression and creativity, not only for the café’s visitors but also for photographers, writers, and artists, giving them the space and time to find inspiration and create.
As they headed toward the exit, George K. Antoniadis and his companions—friends and fellow artists—left feeling excited, enriched by the experience, and with many beautiful photos. They learned about the history and process of winemaking, found inspiration, and relaxed, recharging their daily lives and routines.
